Today, represents a lot to me about personal decisions, believing in yourself, and striving for success. My college career began in 2002, its been a long demented road. To begin with I came from a severely dysfunctional family and being gay was in fact a major issue. Before i started college, i came out my senior year of high school. My mom found out, and being a mentally unstable person as long as ive been alive, tried to kill herself out of disgust and for feeling like a failure for raising a gay kid. This event followed a pattern of sever depression that runs in my family and my aunt’s recent commiting suicide.

So onward to college i went, and as i had always learned as a survival mechanism i repressed all my emotions and kept myself together on the outside. So of course every eventually catches up to you. College started well, but i started slacking. I met and hung out with some great people and i also hung out with some bad influences, which everyone does, I was learning a lot about people and friendships, which i didnt have until i came out of the closet. So naturally there is trial and error. I drank a lot of alcohol and got laid pretty much whenever i wanted to. My grades went down. I lost my scholarship.

To keep things short, I had several mental breakdowns along the way, felt like a complete failure, thought about ending my life a few times, spent some time drinking and putting blow up my nose, dropped out of school for awhile, learned the hard way too many times about drinking to much -ie smashing my face into the concrete and losing several teeth, had some life changing health problems.

Somehow something clicked one saturday in spring 2007, and i realized i wanted to get my degree, and that i could and would succeed. I said i would never do blow again, and never did. I quit spending 3 days a week at Mary’s getting drunk. I started school again in Fall 2008 and worked my ass off ever since. No more failing classes, no more skipping school, no more half assing assignments. My school offers therapy for students, I started going and trying to discover how i came to be the person ive become, understanding i had a fractured sense of self. One cant deny the experiences life has delivered one. If you spend all your time focusing on all that is negative, you really miss some great moments that make life worth living like…fuck just smiling and laughing with your friends. In fact this past year, ive finally begun talking to my mom about what happened my senior year of high school, and about being gay. In the beginning of my college career I hated her so much and never thought i would ever ever have a relationship with her. Come to this year, and shes telling me i can bring a boyfriend home for holidays. I guess what it means to me, and to not doubt hope. hope is important.

All in all today, graduating college just feels like a passage from a former me. The future is wide open, i can be anything and anyone i want to be if i stay positive and believe in myself.

so, the photographer who did my brothers wedding has her business on facebook and friended me after the wedding. her portfolio is constantly updated with new stuff from the most random people. however, most of the pics are so horribly awesome.

this one is captioned “Story time is great and lasts about 22 seconds. But we got the shot!”

cute and all. but apparently this child was NOT having it and was difficult to work with.

now. here is where i get on my soap box. i really dont like “Christmas”. im ok with terms like “holiday season” but its “Christmas” that i have the real issue with. take this family. they are fabricating an image to portray what they want everyone to see. i look at this picture and see and wife who hasnt been fucked in 3 years and a husband who jerks off to youporn late at night and a child who is neglected to the point where he cant behave when told to. there is no control. you see a lot of this type of stuff around “Christmas” time and it really makes me wonder what Christmas is all about to people like this (Christians). because all it says to me is “fake and white washed”.
